Branch (trybranch.xyz and the Branch app) lets you watch interactive stories, choose what happens next, and make new scenes with AI. This page explains what we collect, why, who it's shared with, and how to delete your account. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't show ads.
What we collect
- Your account, if you make one: your email address, name and profile photo, and the @handle you choose. If you sign in with Google or X, they share your name, email and photo with us. Sign-in is handled by our account provider, Clerk.
- What you make and do on Branch: the descriptions you write for new scenes, the clips made from them, images or videos you upload, story titles, your reactions, votes, follows, reports and feedback. Feedback includes the page you were on, your screen size and browser, so we can follow up on problems.
- How Branch is used: which pages are opened and which buttons are used, counted with a random ID your device makes up (we keep only a scrambled version of it). We also use analytics tools, PostHog and Google Analytics, which collect things like your device type, browser, approximate location from your IP address, and how you move through the site. Where session recording is turned on, what you type is hidden.
- On your device: Branch keeps a few things in your browser's storage, such as the stories you follow, your sound setting, and that random ID. You can clear them in your browser's settings.
How we use it
- To run Branch: show stories, make the clips you ask for, and keep your account, stories and follows working on any device.
- To show your @handle and photo on what you make, and on your public profile.
- To email you about your account and your stories, for example a welcome email, or that someone continued your story.
- To keep Branch safe: check descriptions before they become videos, review reported clips, and remove content or accounts that break our Terms.
- To understand which features people use, so we can improve them.
What's public
Stories, branches and clips you publish are public, along with your @handle, profile photo, the stories and branches on your profile, and your follower count. Your email address is never shown publicly. Who reacted, voted or followed isn't shown, only the totals.
Who we share it with
Only the services that run Branch for us, and only what each one needs:
| Netlify | Hosts the site and stores stories, clips and app data. |
| Clerk | Accounts and sign-in (email, name, photo, @handle). |
| Replicate | Makes the video clips: receives your description and the frame the new clip starts from. |
| Anthropic | Checks descriptions before they're made into video, and suggests options: receives your description and the story so far. |
| Cloudinary | Stores some images and videos. |
| Resend | Sends our emails: receives your email address and the email's contents. |
| PostHog, Google Analytics | Usage analytics, as described above. |
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.
AI-generated content
Clips on Branch are made by AI from descriptions people write. Every description is checked first, and sexual content and anything involving minors is refused. If you see something that shouldn't be there, use Report on the player; we review every report.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as you have an account. Usage counts are kept as totals. Emails you've been sent and feedback you've sent are kept for as long as we need them to support you. When you delete your account, we delete it as described below.
Deleting your account
In the app or on the site: sign in, tap your profile photo in the top corner, choose Manage account, then Delete account.
Or ask us: send a request through the contact page or the Help & feedback tab, from the email address on your account, and we'll delete it within 30 days.
What gets deleted: your account, email, name, photo and @handle, your profile, the characters you made, who you follow and who follows you, and your follows of stories. Stories and branches you published stay in the stories they're part of, because other people's paths are built on them, but your name and photo are removed from them. If you'd like those clips removed too, say so in your request and we'll remove them, along with anything built only on them.
Children
Branch isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your choices
- You can change your @handle, name and photo in your profile at any time.
- You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it, through the contact page. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law, and we'll honor them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email if the change is significant.
